Therapy Dogs of South Florida is truly Making A Difference--everyday. Pet Therapy Animal- Assisted Activities and Therapy including Children Reading to Dogs with Mr. Tom DeCicco is a therapy dog program which provides opportunities for motivational, educational, and/or therapeutic benefits to enhance the quality of a patient's or student's life. Therapy Dogs of South Florida Inc., formerly Pet Therapy of South Florida, was founded by Mr. DeCicco in November 2002, and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Both Oskar & Rusty(left), former Delta Society Pet Partner therapy dogs received numerous awards and have since passed on. Harris, a golden retriever recently joined the team and has successfully graduated through his therapy dog training. Tom and his therapy dogs currently make regular volunteer visits to the Boca Raton Community Hospital, Royal Palm Beach Elementary, and Broward Children's Center. Kelly & Charley work extra hard at Royal Palm Beach Elementary helping special needs students with the Children Reading to Dogs program. These special students benefit through increased social interaction, verbal output and reading skills. Royal Palm Beach Elementary named Mr. Tom DeCicco "Volunteer of the Year" for the 2006/2007 school year. In 2004, Mr. DeCicco received a Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce "Volunteer of the Year" award. Therapy dogs Rusty, Charley & Kelly had the honor to carry out the ceremonial first pitch at the Florida Marlins "Bark at the Park" baseball games for the last five years. Tom and his therapy dogs have received numerous Certificate Of Appreciation acknowledgements thoughout the years and have been featured on television, Boca Raton Magazine and in many area newspapers. Tom's goal in 2008, is to continue his non-profit volunteer program full-time and to dedicate himself in "Making A Difference" to adults and students with his three very special therapy animals Kelly, Charley & Harris.
